Day 13: Jury Duty

Today I had jury duty. It was the first time I've ever had to go in. Fortunately, my name wasn't called to the juror box. I must say though, I actually enjoyed watching the jury selection process. If it wasn't the busiest time of year for me, I wouldn't have minded sitting on the jury. It really is something every American should experience.

Day 4: A Stroll Down the Row

Today was a relaxing Saturday with a stroll down Santana Row, followed by lunch in Los Gatos. Although by date it's autumn, we're still enjoying sun here in California. I wanted to take advantage of one last chance to wear a summer dress. I had the hardest time deciding if I like Rylee tied and buttoned with this dress, or left open. What's your vote?

Candy just finished making Rylee. Doesn't it look great? The lacework on the sides and sleeves show up so well in the beautiful vibrant blue yarn she chose. Candy added shaping at the hips and garter stitching at the hem. Read about her modifications on Ravelry or start making Rylee for yourself.

New Pattern - Rylee

Yipee, this month's new pattern is available. Rylee is a raglan cardigan, knit from the top down. There are two sleeve options; cap and 3/4-length. It closes with buttons down the front and a tie around the waist. Aside from sewing up the hem, it's completely seamless. There's lacework on the sleeves, center front and sides.

I selected two different blends of yarn for this pattern. The 3/4-length sleeve version is made from a bamboo/silk blend. It makes the sweater drapey and loose. The cap sleeve version is a cotton/tencel blend. It has a more structured shape and fits closer to the body. Be sure to consider these differences when selecting your yarn to you get the look you want.

The past few nights I've been knitting into the wee hours of the morning working on a cardigan I'm designing. Normally I wouldn't be able to tell you anything about the design because it would be for a book or magazine. Not this time! This time I can tell you all about it because it's going to be published by me.

For the past couple years I've been playing around with the idea of self-publishing my knitwear patterns. I've finally decided to stop thinking about it and do it. I'm enjoying designing so much. There's no one telling me what yarn to use, changing elements of my design or stressing me out with ridiculous deadlines. The designs come out exactly as I intended, even better because I'm able to make them up as I go.

So far one design is complete. It just needs to be test knitted, photographed and the pattern edited. I hope to have it available in June. I'm thinking of releasing the patterns monthly, but I'm not sure yet. We'll see how things go. If I make this commitment but then miss getting a pattern published one month, I'll beat myself up. This is one of the reasons it took me so long to self-publish. Maybe sporadic releases would be better for me.

Anyway, back to the design on the needles. Here's a couple peaks. It's a raglan cardigan knit from the top down. It was going to have 3/4-length sleeves, but after putting it on Fiona (my dress form) this morning I'm thinking little cap sleeves would be cute. Maybe I'll offer both on the pattern and let you decide.
